Why don't you edit demos made by other producers?
Generally we try to respect the hard work of the people who make your demo, even if it's not us. We wouldn't like it if people modified our work without letting us know. So if you're not happy with a spot from another producer, we recommend you discuss it with them. If your demo is outdated or many years old but you like the vibe, we can work with you to create a newer more polished version!
Why don't you do individual services or use pre-written scripts?
The short answer: We don't feel it's ethically right to put our name on something we didn't fully create. The longer answer: Everyone can write, but it takes industry experience to write a good demo that stands out to agents & clients, and that's what you're paying for with SG - our years of experience producing games, animation, & commercials, our time doing AAA sound design, and our years of daily full-time professional acting experience. For us, being a piece of a process or vision we didn't create makes it hard for there to be any cohesion in your demo, & you deserve better. We understand trying to save money on a pieced-together demo on a budget (we've done it before), but experience has taught us that piecing together a demo can be great for some, and not for others. Piecing demos can be more expensive, & risks leaving a lot lost in translation between a writer, director or engineer who all have different opinions about what makes a good demo - some of which will conflict. Your friend that is a "music producer" or "writes stories" is great for an indie or starter demo, but they have no idea what is expected of Voice Actors, do not understand the market, have no idea what agents and managers want, and have no idea what being a professional in that field is like. There's nothing wrong with making due with what you have, but we recommend adjusting your expectations for those kinds of demos. They might not get you signed by an agency, but they can pull down a good bit of work for you! Because of all this it's easy to make small mistakes that can make a big difference in how you appear to clients, agents, & more. And that's why we choose not to be part of that combo process, to avoid any harm or complication for the actors we know and respect.
Do you ever say "no" to a demo?
That's a great question to consider! We do, from time to time, suggest Voice Actors get more coaching before we will give them a demo. The reason we do this is not to be mean or unfair, but rather to honor & protect you. If you make a demo too early, there are all kinds of negative consequences that will affect both your financial wellbeing and career. There are plenty of people out there willing to take your money whether they're qualified to make you a demo, and whether or not you're ready - but we feel it's not right to give you a demo that you will outgrow in just a few months. Once again, we choose not to be a part of any harm done to the Voice Actors we know and respect.
